Catch A Fire

Starring Tim Robbins, Derek Luke, Bonnie Mbuli, Mncedisi Shabangu, Tumisho Masha, Sithembiso Khumalo and Terry Pheto. Written by Shawn Slovo. Directed by Phillip Noyce. Rated PG-13. Now playing.

Catch A Fire is a compelling story about South Africa and the Apartheid that not only re-educates its audience on the struggle between South African blacks and whites, but also tells the true story of one freedom fighter named Patrick Chamusso.

The audience experiences Chamusso’s personal struggles with Apartheid, terrorism, love and his own notions of human rights. Derek Luke, who plays Chamusso, once again takes on a role of great importance and historical reference, like that of the role he played in Glory Road. But in Catch A Fire, Luke by far surpasses any great performance he has given up to this point in his acting career. Pitted against Tim Robbins, the police leader fighting terrorism, Luke and the entire cast bring this story to life with great intensity and skill. Overall, this movie is well directed, beautifully written and worth every minute. | RDW
